Gabby Barrett shared a warning to viewers as she premiered the new music video to her heartfelt ballad, “Dance Like No One’s Watching,” on Wednesday morning (May 1).
“Warning! If you’re a Daddy’s girl or have a daughter, this one might make ya shed a tear,” Barrett wrote as she posted a brief clip of the music video on Instagram, quickly garnering comments from Instagram users who said they “definitely shed a tear or two,” and were “not prepared for this,” among many other similar reactions.
“It's such a sweet montage of a woman's life – from her first dance as a child with her dad to their dance on her wedding day,” Barrett said of the Josh Gicker-directed music video, via CMT. “I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, and this video equally shares that feeling. …I haven't been to a school dance since I was much younger, so it was so neat to step back into that atmosphere. It honestly really got me excited for my little girls' future dances – I can't wait to see them all dressed up with their daddy!”
“Dance Like No One’s Watching” appears on Barrett’s sophomore full-length album, Chapter & Verse, which made its long-awaited debut earlier this year. The American Idol alumna, 24, took the reins with creative control unlike ver before. she co-produced the album with Ross Copperman and is a co-writer on nine of the 14 tracks. Award-winning artist Luke Combs wrote “Dance Like No One’s Watching” with songwriters Emily Weisband and James McNair.
Among other highlights, the father-daughter song appears on Chapter & Verse along with “Glory Days,” “Cowboy Back,” “You’re My Texas,” and “Growin’ Up Raising You,” an autobiographical ballad about Barrett’s life as a young mother. She and her husband, fellow singer and musician Cade Foehner, 28, welcomed Baby No. 3 on February 17. Daughter Ivy Josephine Foehner (or Ivy Jo) joins big sister Baylah May Foehner, who was born in January 2021, and big brother Augustine Boone Foehner, who made his arrival in October 2022. Barrett and Foehner met as contestants on American Idol in 2018, and married the following year.
